I have really wanted to make a crocheted blanket (think granny squares) but just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I was concerned that, with all of the open spaces in a granny square, it wouldn’t be warm enough. I came across this idea on Pinterest (Bee in My Bonnet Co.) and realized it was the best of both worlds – an afghan and a quilt!
Sew squares together (these are 5″) and then sew a blanket stitch (aka buttonhole stitch) all the way around each square. Create a crochet border in the stitches. Lay the squares out and crochet them together. There are tons of tutorials and patterns for edging fabric out there – just choose your favorite. This may be my next sewing/crochet project. What are your plans?
